As practitioners of stainless steel, we usually contact with regular varieties in our work. Occasionally, some customers come to find some unpopular varieties. We haven't really touched them or heard of them, but it does.

200 series—chromium-nickel-manganese austenitic stainless steel


The 200 series is very special. The 200 series has only 201 and 202 brands, but the derivative varieties in a single brand are the most complicated.

At present, there is no corresponding mature national or industry standard for the production and use of 201 stainless steel. Therefore, in practice, many problems have occurred in the production, circulation and use of 201 stainless steel, some of which are more prominent.

201 stainless steel also has no national standard, so new derivative names are constantly pouring out, J1, J2, J3, J4, J5, it is said that what will come next is J6, J7 or even J8 ... These so-called 201, nickel content is more than one, the biggest difference is the copper content, the higher the copper content, the more expensive the price.


300 series—chromium-nickel austenitic stainless steel


300 series stainless steel should be the most familiar steel type. It belongs to austenitic stainless steel, which can also be called nickel chromium stainless steel, because the cost of nickel accounts for more than 65% of the total cost. Its biggest disadvantage is probably the relatively high price!
 


1, 301: Good ductility, used for molding products. It can also be hardened by mechanical processing. Good weldability. The abrasion resistance and strength are better than 304 stainless steel.

2. 302: Corrosion resistance is the same as 304. Because the carbon content is relatively high, the strength is better.

3. 303: By adding a small amount of sulfur and phosphorus, it is easier to cut than 304.

4. 304: Universal model; namely 18/8 stainless steel. GB grade is 0Cr18Ni9.

5. 309: It has better temperature resistance than 304.

6. 316: After 304, the second most widely used steel is mainly used in the food industry and surgical equipment. The addition of molybdenum makes it obtain a special structure that resists corrosion. Because it has better resistance to chloride corrosion than 304, it is also used as "marine steel". SS316 is commonly used in nuclear fuel recovery devices. 18/10 grade stainless steel usually also meets this application level.

7. 321: Other properties are similar to 304 except that the addition of titanium reduces the risk of corrosion of the material weld.


In addition, the 300 series is also constantly being introduced into new ones, such as 304D or QN1803 has been widely used in decoration, construction, home appliances and other fields, such as 304C, 304F, 304Q are also coming out in 2019, among them, QN1803 / 304Q deep drawing products Use, high nitrogen austenitic stainless steel, mainly used for non-food contact categories such as sinks, trash cans; High-nitrogen austenitic stainless steel for food contact is mainly used in food fields such as pots, kettles, vacuum flasks, etc. 316LD is also coming out.


400 series-ferritic and martensitic stainless steel


400 series stainless steel is an alloy of iron, carbon and chromium. Because it does not contain nickel, it is a nickel-saving stainless steel, also known as stainless iron.

The material grades of 400 series are: 409L, 410, 410L, 410S, 420, 420J1, 420J2, 430, 436L, 439, 440, 441, 443 and so on.

Among them, 430 and 409L belong to ferrite, and 410, 410L, 420, 420J1, 420J2, 436L, 440, etc. belong to martensite.


1. 408: Good heat resistance, weak corrosion resistance, 11% Cr, 8% Ni.

2, 409: The cheapest model (British and American), usually used as an automobile exhaust pipe, is a ferritic stainless steel (chromium steel).

3. 410: Martensite (high-strength chromium steel), good wear resistance and poor corrosion resistance.

4. 416: The addition of sulfur improves the processing performance of the material.

5. 420: "Cutting grade" martensitic steel, similar to the earliest stainless steel such as Brinell high-chromium steel. It is also used for surgical knives and can be made very bright.

6. 430: Ferrite stainless steel, for decoration, for example, for car accessories. Good formability, but poor temperature resistance and corrosion resistance.


7, 440: High-strength cutting tool steel with a slightly higher carbon content. After proper heat treatment, a higher yield strength can be obtained, and the hardness can reach 58HRC, which is one of the hardest stainless steels. The most common application example is the "razor blade". There are three commonly used models: 440A, 440B, 440C, and 440F (easy processing type).

Of course, there are more popular 500 series-heat-resistant chromium alloy steel, 600 series-martensitic precipitation hardening stainless steel. Like 630, the most commonly used precipitation hardening stainless steel model is usually called 17-4; 17% Cr, 4% Ni.
