How to Choose a Decorative Stainless Steel Sheet

Grade and Finish Selection

304 stainless steel is a common starting point for dry indoor commercial interiors. 316L should be evaluated for coastal, humid or chloride-exposed locations. Grades 201 and 430 may suit selected indoor projects when their corrosion resistance and fabrication properties meet the specification. The final grade should always be confirmed for the actual service environment.

Finish selection affects appearance, cleaning and fabrication. Mirror sheets create strong reflection; brushed and hairline sheets provide a controlled directional grain; PVD adds selected colours; etched and embossed finishes create patterns or texture; water-ripple panels reflect light across a formed surface. Approve a physical sample before bulk production because screen colours cannot reliably represent the final metal surface.

Can decorative stainless steel be used outdoors?

Yes, but the grade, finish, fixing system, exposed edges and local environment must be reviewed together. Coastal and chloride-exposed projects usually require more careful material evaluation.

Can finished sheets be cut and bent?

Many finishes can be fabricated, but the process sequence matters. Share drawings before ordering so bend areas, grain direction, protective film and visible surfaces can be checked.

Can different colours and finishes be combined?

Yes. Mirror, brushed, etched, embossed and other base finishes can be combined with selected PVD colours. Compatibility should be confirmed through a physical sample.

Why should panels be ordered by one approved batch?

Continuous visible areas can reveal small differences in colour, texture or reflection. Coordinating panels by approved sample and production batch helps improve consistency.
